Reviewing 2012's Reading

2012 was a year of prolific reading, for me at least. Most of my reading catered to my potus_geeks interest, but I also managed to fit in some reading on the subjects of spirituality, sports, self-improvement and even a little bit of fiction. (I think I read more fiction, but can only recall the little bit listed below. Following is a list of the books I read in 2012 (linked to their page on Amazon.com):

1. 1920: The Year of Six Presidents by David Pietrusza

2. Four Hats in the Ring: The 1912 Election and the Birth of Modern American Politics by Lewis J. Gould

3. William Henry Harrison (the American Presidents Series) by Gail Collins

4. A Magnificent Catastrophe: The Tumultuous Election of 1800, America's First Campaign by Edward J. Larson

5. FDR, Dewey and the Election of 1944 by David M. Jordan

6. The Baseball Codes: Beanballs, Sign Stealing, and Bench-Clearing Brawls: The Unwritten Rules of America's Pastime by Jason Turbow

7. The Now Habit: A Strategic Program for Overcoming Procrastination and Enjoying Guilt-Free Play by Dr. Neil Fiore

8. Nixon's Darkest Secrets: The Inside Story of America's Most Troubled President by Don Fulsom

9. The Extra 2%: How Wall Street Strategies Took a Major League Baseball Team from Worst to First by Jonah Keri

10. Write It When I'm Gone: Remarkable Off-The-Record Conversations with Gerald R. Ford by Thomas M. DeFrank

11. The Presidencies of James Garfield and Chester A. Arthur by Justus Doenecke

12. Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything by Joshua Foer

13. Choosing Civility: The Twenty-five Rules of Considerate Conduct by P. M. Forni

14. Founding Rivals: Madison vs. Monroe, The Bill of Rights and the Election that Saved a Nation by Chris DeRose

15. 1948: Harry Truman's Improbable Victory and the Year That Transformed America by David Pietrusza

16. Re-Electing Lincoln: The Battle for the 1864 Presidency by John C. Waugh

17. Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell, and Know by Alexandra Horowicz

18. The Spirituality of Imperfection: Storytelling and the Search for Meaning by Ernest Kurtz

19. Raylan: A Novel by Elmore Leonard

20. A Spiritual Renegade's Guide to the Good Life by Lama Marut

21. Chester Alan Arthur: The American Presidents Series by Zachary Karabell

22. William McKinley: The American Presidents Series by Kevin Phillips

23. John Quincy Adams: A Life by Harlow Giles Unger

24. The Thinking Life: How to Thrive in the Age of Distraction by P. M. Forni

25. Rutherford B. Hayes: Warrior and President by Ari Hoogenboom

26. The Man Who Saved the Union: Ulysses Grant in War and Peace by H. W. Brands

27. Gentleman Boss: The Life of Chester Alan Arthur by Thomas C. Reeves

The best books I read were probably the following:

1. The Man Who Saved the Union: Ulysses Grant in War and Peace
2. John Quincy Adams: A Life
3. A Spiritual Renegade's Guide to the Good Life
4. Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything
5. The Extra 2%: How Wall Street Strategies Took a Major League Baseball Team from Worst to First
6. Gentleman Boss: The Life of Chester Alan Arthur

I'm not sure whether or not I'll broaden my reading tastes in 2013 or not. There are still a lot of books in my potus_geeks library waiting to be read, and more that will be published. But I suspect that 2013 will be another year of being a bookworm egghead.

I'm looking forward to reading everyone else's 2012 list, though I know for some of you it will probably number in the hundreds!
