Review of The Death of Kings by Barnard Cornwell

Last week I finished reading Barnard Cornwell's Death of Kings. It is the last book in the Saxon Saga. However this was my first time reading anything by this author. Set in the year 998, it tells the story of a man named Ulrth and his struggle to reclaim his home and help unite England while trying to defend the land from invadors.

What I Liked: The speech he gives to his men near the end of the book. (Although when I read it, it reminded me of Braveheart. Even though its at least two hundred years have passed between that story and this one.)  What I didn't like:  The one boy who always was threatening to kill Ulthr and of course the hero's cousin. The relationship between the two men made the Hatfills and the McCoys look downright cozy compared to the King's heir and his cousin.  Still the book had plenty of action and suspense and was a good tale all around. 5/5
