Looking for a cat-people fantasy series

'Lo, all! My brain and resources can't find a fantasy (or was it sci-fi?) series that featured humans with cat heads or cats with human bodies. >.< It was on the library shelf for 10 years and I never picked it up. Now that the library's paperback collections have dwindled, I can't find it.

I don't know the author or titles, but I do know the covers featured these cat-people on the covers, staring out the window. I'd know the covers if I saw them, but everything I've found so far doesn't match up.

Lesson learned: If you want to remember the book, take it out regardless of whether you'll actually read it in the near future.

Was it in the adult racks or the YA racks? Did it look like it had an Egyptian theme (as many Egyptian gods had animal heads, including Bast who had a cat head)?

the adult rack. it could have had an Egyptian theme, though your guess is as good as mine since i likely didn't pick up on the details back in the day.

Was it Turning Point by Lisanne Norman?

it very well may be! considering it seems to be an "old" series and isn't listed in my library's website, that would explain its obscurity. thanks!

Anne McCaffrey's "Freedom" series has cat people, the "Catteni". Titles are "Freedom's Landing", "Freedom's Choice" and "Freedom's Challenge". Settling new planets, mixing humans and Catteni, bustin' up the slave labor...

If you're still looking, try the works of Andre Norton. She wrote many a book with cat characters, cat plotlines, and cat people. Generally they were YA novels.

There's a book (first of a series) called "Haydn of Mars" by Al Sarrantonio which might fit the bill.

There are a lot of "cat people" things in fantasy. I have entire anthologies devoted to the subject so to narrow it down a bit is difficult. Part of the problem is that cover art isn't unique (it's often reused, believe it or not) and it changes with the regional publisher. The covers for books in the UK may look very different from the covers in the US, and then there's the issue of covers change between printings occasionally.

that cover certainly does look familiar! =D

That looks quite interesting and never heard of it before whereas I knew about the Norton and other books.

Fantastic Fiction (.co.uk) is quite useful for listing cover art for UK/USA and different printings.

Could it have been a short story anthology? Andre Norton and Martin Greenberg edited a bunch of cat-fantasy/scifi stories called CatFantastic . The covers all featured cats posed and dressed as people.

I had those and loved them. Someone borrowed my HorseFantastic and never returned it. :(
