9th grade suggestions!

What would you consider the must-have books for a 9th grade English classroom library? I'm starting from scratch AND a new teacher, in an inner city DC, 100% African American, low achieving school. I need a wide range of reading levels with a range of authors and topics beyond "written by a dead white guy" (as my summer school students liked to say). Suggestions for fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, and poetry are all welcome!

Our required reading for the year: Romeo and Juliet, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Things Fall Apart.
