William Sleator, 1945-2011

William Sleator, author of many popular YA novels, passed away last Wednesday.

From postings on whatwasthatbook, it seems that he is best (if incompletely) known for House of Stairs, but his New York Times obituary says that Interstellar Pig was also a favorite.

Moody, psychologically probing and sometimes terrifying, Mr. Sleator’s work chronicled young people’s passage through all manner of dystopias. It was a fitting juxtaposition of age group and subject matter, for what, after all, is more dystopian than adolescence?
