North and South

Has anyone read North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell? I tried to get it from the library today and they don't own a circulating copy. They have her Cranford book, Wives and Daughters, and biography of Charlotte Bronte. There is a non-circulating copy called North and South that is in the rare book room though.

I'm wondering if it's worth the trouble of going to some used book stores to find it or trying to get the library to order a new copy. Any opinions? I saw the BBC miniseries once and thought it might be an interesting read. Is it any good?
