One Year of La Mariane's books

Today is the 5th of November 2010, the end of my personnal 50 books challenge. I didn't read 50 books, in fact I just read 35 books. I used to read so much, maybe 3 books a week at the very least, more like 4 or 5 books. But with Uni and work, I got used to reading less and less and then I discovered fanfic... The year before last, I read so few books that I decided I had to do something, hence the 50 books challenge. So I din't make it to the goal, but I still ended up reading far more : it was a good idea on the whole.

The 35 books I finished :
Typhoon by Conrad
Merlin by Michel Rio : no Englsh translation available, which is a shame
Leo Africanus by Amin Maalouf
Oedipus Rex by Sophocles
Much Ado About Nothing by Shakespeare
The Sword in the Stone by T. H. White
Priestess of the White, book 1 of the Age of the Five trilogy by Trudi Canavan
an anthology of supernatural short stories by Gautier
Sherlock Holmes short stories by Conan Doyle
L'Assommoir by Zola
Joust by Mercedes Lackey
Alta by Mercedes Lackey, sequel to Joust
Legacy
, second novel in The Sharing Knife series by Lois McMaster Bujold
Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie
Last of the Wilds, second novel in the Age of the Five series, by Trudi Canavan
Passage, third novel in the Sharing Knife series by Lois McMaster Bujold
The Gunslinger, book 1 in the Dark Tower series, by Stephen King
The Drawing of the Three, book 2 in the DT series, by Stephen King
The Waste Lands, book 3 in the DT series, by King
an anthology of short stories by Gogol
If by a Winter's Night a Traveller by Italo Calvino
Animal Farm of Orwell
The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood
The Evolution Man by Roy Lewis
The Family Trade, book 1 in the Merchant Princes series by Charles Stross
Le Souper, play by Jean-Claude Brisville (I don't think there's an English translation)
Horizon, last novel in the Sharing Knife series by Lois McMaster Bujold
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke
Mara and Dann by Doris Lessing
The Cloven Viscount by Italo Calvino
The Handmaid's Tale by Atwood
Stardust by Neil Gailman
Tales from Broca Street by Pierre Gripari
Voice of the Gods, last book in the Age of the Five trilogy, by Trudi Canavan
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

My two absolute favourite ones were Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke and Mara and Dann by Doris Lessing. I can't recommend those books warmly enough. I also really liked the Dark Towers novels, and I plan on finishing the series. If you have recommendations based on the list above and my thoughts on those books (click on the 50bookschallenge tag in my LJ or here), I'm all ears.
