I'm looking for some good books set in eighteenth/nineteenth century America/Canada. A lot of what I've been able to find so far has centred around particular events (usually the Civil War), and that's not really what I'm looking for this time. I'm a big fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books, and the ones about her daughter Rose; I also really love the TV series "Dr Quinn: Medicine Woman", and so I'd love something along those lines - focusing more on life in general in that part of the world, rather than a major historical event, if that makes sense. Also, preferably female-centric, although I'm flexible if it's good. I'm just not looking for anything focused on the military/politics.
Also, I've heard of the books written later about Wilder's mother/grandmother/etc., and I'm wondering if those are worth checking out?
Thanks in advance!
