The Bitch Goddess Notebook - your thoughts?

I'm quite terrible in choosing good books based on covers alone. Usually I'm drawn to a super awesome retro looking cover and usually I'm disappointed (NOT the case when it comes to The Virgin Suicides which has a kick-ass retro cover and is one of my most favourite books!)

I've neglected the local library for the most part of the three years I've been at university because I've found buying books easier because I usually don't get around to reading books I get for at least a month or two.

I picked up Martha O'Connor's 'The Bitch Goddess Notebook' from the library the other day based on the cover alone, and a quick glance over the blurb which promised hellraising teenage girls in 1988 (reminded me a little of the movie Heathers)

The uber awesome cover which I still love despite not enjoying the book so far:

My thoughts after reading the first three chapers: Trashy chick lit loaded with melodrama!
In the first three chapters we have a lovely dose of self-harm, self-harm for sexual pleasure, drugs, and a goth who hates Bon-Jovi.

I don't think I have the power to continue, but I sort of want to. Has anyone else read this book and what are your thoughts? Does it get better after the first three introductory chapters?

EDIT: Whenever I'm struggling with a book, I have this thing I do where I'll quickly skim the whole book and look for key words and events in each chapter as a faster way of reading the book and judging whether it's worth taking the time to read it properly. I just did this and my conclusion is, I don't want to finish this book. So having said that, what are your thoughts on the book? Did you like it / hate it etc?? I personally spent most of the time just laughing at the overdramatic events...
