Another angel book: The Fallen

... Not to be confused with Fallen by Lauren Kate, The Fallen by Thomas Sniegoski was first published in 2003 and is the first book in a tetralogy also including Leviathan, Aerie, and Reckoning.

Let's see which cover gets your attention:

...First one looks more interesting to me. There's more going on, it's colorful, and the second cover looks generic and I'd skip over it.

From your review: "...a concerted plan to market the novels to the teen girls who've devoured Hush, Hush..."

I think that's it. That's the vibe I kinda got, and try to avoid.

Haha. I guess the cover will attract some and make others brandish their copy of [insert favorite non-paranormal romance YA book here] in defense. The strange thing, is that the marketing ploy doesn't at all reflect the content of the Fallen, other than the presence of winged-creatures. Definitely a polarizing cover -- possibly attracting Twilight fans to better things, but at the risk of marginalizing a fair number of potential male readers. Oh, the politics of cover art!

I'd be more likely to pick up the second. For some reason, I generally don't like covers like the first... =/

Lol, the man in the first makes me think of Clark Kent, from the show Smallville. I've only seen it once, but I'm pretty sure he used to run around in a red jacket... ^^

My personal impressions can be summed up like so:

Cover #1: Colorful! Hmm, wings -- looks kind of fantasy/sci-fi. Wonder what their connection to the story is. Cute dog. Are they going towards, or away from, something? <clicks cover to your review>

Cover #2: Guy is somewhat attractive, but guess it's a paranormal romance or some such. Not my thing. <passes it by>

I never realized that those were angel wings! That cover just became many times more awesome to me.
