The Secret History of the Pink Carnation

Author: Lauren Willig
Rating: 5 out of 5!
Genre: Historical, Comedy, Romance (not particularly in that order)

The Secret History of the Pink Carnation is awesome! This is the first book I've read by Lauren Willig, and she has a fully developed voice that colors her dialogue and thickens her plot. If you love History and despise sheep, this is the book for you!

Based mostly in France, but a little bit in England, the plot takes place mostly during the Napoleonic era... but a little bit in the modern world, also.

We follow the lives of Eloise, a grad-student working on her dissertation while also attempting to uncover the identity of the Pink Carnation, an English spy in France. Luckily, she happens to stumble into the right secrets...

In Napoleonic-era France/England we follow the lives of some very patriotic Englishmen and women as they attempt to foil the latest attempt of Napoleon to invade England.

I'm sorry this is vague, but it's such a great book you should really read it to find out more -- especially if you love comedies. I know 'Romance' scares people off, but it's super awesome.
