Has anyone read this book?  I picked it up at a library book sale for like a dollar.  I started reading it last week, but can't really get into it.  I was just wondering if anyone else has read it, what did you think?

Book #56

Book #56
Book Title: Bloodsucking Fiends
Author: Christopher Moore
Category: fiction
# of pages: 290
My rating of the book, F- [worst] to A [best].: A
Short description/summary of the book: (taken from's something different: a vampire novel that's light, funny, and not at all hackneyed. Between scenes of punks bowling frozen turkeys on the graveyard shift in a supermarket, or snapping turtles loose in a loft and gnawing on designer shoes, this novel has comic charm to spare. But it also packs an appealingly downbeat message about the consumer culture: Becoming a vampire has given the twentysomething heroine "a crampless case of rattlesnake PMS"--a grumpy mood in which she realizes that she can dress to the nines as a "Donner Party Barbie" and still end up disillusioned and unhappy, just another slacker doing her own laundry and watching sucky TV 'til the sun rises.

My Thoughts: I thought that this was a cute and funny read. If you're a fan of vampire stories with a little bit of humor in the mix then I highly recommend this book. I have not read any other of Moore's books but now I will be sure to check out the other ones he has written.

Books read this year: 56/50.

Next read(s): I am not sure what I am going to read next.

Blood Rites by Jim Butcher

Luckily, I got to finish this book when the calls were slow at work.... Since some people may consider this review to have spoilers for previous book in the series, it will go under a cut.

Review: Beautiful Boy by David Sheff

Beautiful Boy Summary: (from A bright, capable teenager, Nic began trying mind- and mood-altering substances when he was 17. In months, use became abuse, then abuse became addiction. By the time Sheff knew of his son's condition, Nic was strung out on meth, the highly potent stimulant. While his son struggles to get clean, his second wife and two younger children are pulled helplessly into the drama. Sheff, as the parent of an addict, cycles through denial and acceptance and resistance. The author was already a journalist of considerable standing when this painful story began to unfold, and his impulse for detail serves him personally as well as professionally: there are hard, solid facts about meth and the kinds of havoc it wreaks on individuals, families and communities both urban and rural. His journey is long and harrowing, but Sheff does not spare himself or anyone else from keen professional scrutiny any more than he was himself spared the pains—and joys—of watching a loved one struggling with addiction and recovery. Real recovery creates—and can itself be—its own reward; this is an honest, hopeful book, coming at a propitious moment in the meth epidemic.

My Rating: 5/5

Pass the Heroin by Me (enigmacyofme)

Pass the Heroin by Me (enigmacyofme)

Closed doors and dirty streets
Thrust out and the drum still beats.
A piece of gum lost and found,
Chewed on and spit out.

This world is not for me,
Dont give me another bad memory.
I want to forget, get to the next,
Page, but they're all burnt out.
End the drought,
End this drought.

Pass the heroin,
I need to give in,
Needle thrust in my skin.

Standing there,
December night sky,
Feeling oh so high.
This moment is rare,
I love it when we fly.

Disorientation and Hypoventilation,
A man without a foundation.
Support me, carry me home,
Don't want to roam the streets alone.

The downfall is massive,
Passivley resitant to this hurt.
Wipe off the dirt,
The glass is stained.
Clear sheet detained.
Power drained.

No way out,
No highway to heaven
So pass the heroin.
