Devastatingly Devastating Reads...

Hello all - great community! I've gotten some fabulous recommendations for reading here, and hope I've been able to likewise recommend new books to people :)

Hoping you can help me with yet more books to discover - I'm looking for really sad reads.

I just have a craving, from time to time, to envelop myself in just tragic, devastating, cry-your-eyes-out fiction.

I love: general fiction/literature, historical stuff, classics, crime.
Not such a fan of: fantasy, science fiction, young adult fiction.

Can't wait to hear your suggestions, and thanks in advance.
