A littlehelp with a summary?

So I was wondering if anyone has read Doctor Faustus : The Life of the German Composer Adrian Leverkuhn As Told by a Friend written by Thomas Mann. It was assigned in my english class and I tried to get through it but honestly I find it extremely dry and I hate the narrator, I think hes a creepy prick, anyway if anyone can offer a summery that would help me at lest skim the book and get past the duller parts I would really appreciate it. I tried looking for a summery online but couldn't find one that was free so if anyone knows where i could find a decent summary, well that would be great too.
