Organization

I am SOOOOOOOOO happy.  After waiting five years, I'm finally getting my built-in bookshelves.  Seven feet high, six feet across.  Just enough to house my current library.  So, my questions is this: how do people have their books organized?  Right now mine are by genre and then by author.  Is there a better way?
