Found a new bookshop yesterday....

I went in there, just looking for Hafez. But the owner seemed friendly, so I had a bit of banter with him as I went in. I made him promise me that he wouldn't let me buy more than 4. He told me that he did once cut up the credit card of his best customer, at her request. I told him of my ex's policy of buy one, take one to the charity shop. He thought this was a terrific idea.

After half-an-hour of him scuttling around, bringing me all sorts of things I'd never have thought of in a million years, I settled on 5, three by authors I'd never heard of at all. He seemed pleased, the scoundrel. He didn't have any Hafez, or Dan Millman, or Enzensberger. But I'll probably back again before too long. Here's what I got.

Sugar-Coated Pill: Selected Poems by Mahmood Jamal
The Pocket Rumi ed. Kabir Helminski
Travels with Herodotus by Ryszard Kapuscinski
Failed States: the abuse of Power and the assault on Democracy by Noam Chomsky
