Agatha Christie

I'm interested in reading some Agatha Christie mysteries, but I don't know where to start! Are the Poirot novels sequential or can they be read in any order? Any particular recommendations? (I've seen the Margaret Rutherford Marple movies and greatly enjoyed the wacky old lady although I've heard they weren't too faithful to the books.)
