The Inevitable Rec. Request

Hello all, I'm new but I've lurked.  I'm a college student and between my schedule and work I have little time to read and even less to browse the stacks/ online/ my friend's bookshelves for good reading material.  I'm looking for something engaging and quick, preferaboly sci/fi or fantasy but I'm open to trying new things.  If you would drop me a line and gimme a quick recommendation I would be very grateful!

A few examples of books I've read (and enjoyed) in the past:

Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series
S.M. Stirling's "Dies the Fire"
"Maus" - the graphic novel, can't remember who wrote it
Kim Harrison's "Rachel Morgan" series

and other assorted works.
