Teach Me by R.A. Nelson-
Generally, I do not find myself in the young adult section of any bookstore, but over the holidays I was looking for a gift for a friend, when I noticed this book. I finally got around to reading it last night, and I have very mixed feelings about it.
The book is about a seventeen- year-old girl, Carolina, who finds herself crushing hard on her Poetry teacher, Mr.Mann. As the months progress, he visits her at work, and talks with her alone during school, and somehow, he kisses her and they fall in love. A few more months pass of them 'dating' and eventually he steals her v-card. He tells her he wants to marry her, etc etc. But out of the blue one day he tells her it's over and she goes crazy, stalking him, breaking into his apartment, doing everything to find out why he left her. I don't want to give away to much to I'll leave it there.
The beginning of the book is really good. I like the style of how it's written and the characters are believable. It's when Mr.Mann leaves her and she goes crazy, I get a little put off. The story, suddenly, becomes very unrealistic and bizarre. And then, it just ends, and the ending seems like a cop out, as though Mr.Nelson had other ideas planned but decided to just end it on a different note.
All around, I give it a 3/5. It was well written for a Young Adult novel, and interesting, to say the least. But I don't recommend spending money on it, maybe look for it at a used book store or the library.
