BABEL is still on the lookout for contributors for its upcoming first issue. We have, however, changed a few of our guidelines.
We have decided to keep things simple and divide the content of our issues into 3 main categories.
We accept articles about any topic that fits the theme of each issue. Each article has a word limit of 2000.
We MIGHT accept fiction so go ahead and try us. We prefer journalistic investigations into cultural/societal/literary/artistic trends. You can write about any topic whether it's about film, TV, tattoos, zoology, custard pies, whatever. As long as it fits our theme.
We feature a selection of photos taken in conjunction with the theme. They can be portraits, landscape, still life, anything at all. As long as it fits the theme. You can send single shots or a photo series (no more than 8 pics in a series, please).
We are looking for 100 word reviews of books, records, films, theatre productions, concerts, even restaurants and bars. These reviews have to fit the theme. This means that you have to go beyond saying whether a book sucks or not, you have to relate it to the theme and write a sort of observation about how the book enhances or subverts the meaning of the theme. You don't have to review a single book/film, etc. You can choose to do more than one if you think it will make your article work better. If you have a really great idea about doing some kind of study involving coming up with reviews of several different genres, you might want to submit that under WORDS instead.
THE THEME FOR THE FIRST ISSUE IS "LOCAL"
You can email us at email@example.com
Please send us your pitches for article ideas. Please don't just write to tell me you're interested in writing something. Tell me what you would like to write about. Also tell us which section you are submitting for as well. Thanks.
We look forward to hearing from you!
