Bookmarks

I was just wondering if anyone else around here collected bookmarks?
I started collecting my freshman or sophmore year of highschool and at last count had 47. Though, the number is probably higher as I've taveled and tend to grab bookmarks where ever and whenever I can.  I actually try to grab two usually. One that I can use, and one that I can collect. It doesn't always work out but I try.

Do any of you have a favorite bokmark?
I think my favorite came from France. It's the Moulin Rouge and I've never even used it for fear of ruining it. Or my Wodner Woman one (I'm big on comics too)

Yeah, I have a bunch that I think are neat/pretty/extra special - not sure how many. I've also cross-stitched four:

They're a lot of fun and I'd get some strange looks and great service from bemused wait staff :)

I realized that I had so many bookmarks that I decided to keep them in a box so that I don't lose them when I'm not currently using any in books.

I guess my favorite is the one of a Ringwraith from LOTR. There's a little gold ring tied to the tassle.

Mine are hanging out on the edge of one of my bookshelves. I keep meaning to get them a scrapbook to keep them in good condition.

I actually don't have any "tough" bookmarks, like the kind they sell in bookstores by the check out.
I do belive I'll be givng them a try soon though.

I just decided recently to start collecting bookmarks, so I only have a very small collection right now(about 5).

Choosing a favorite is very hard. I have a very pretty one from Korea that I received as a present. It's gold and it kind of reminds me of a frame. There's open space in the book mark so it makes a flower design. It's hard to describe but I love it very much. I also have one with Erasmus's quote about book which I love.

I've been collecting bookmarks since I was a wee thing. I have some that are harp style with a metal hook with something dangling from the end that hangs out of the hook. My favorite of those has a scarab with a pretty bead on it. I've also got a wooden one, a metal enamel one from Hearst Castle and a string one with beads on either end.

I have also been collecting bookmarks for quite a while...I can't think of any favorites offhand because the collection is hiding somewhere among my things at my parents' and I've been at college for four years or so, but one that means a lot to me is in my mother's possession- it's an old bookmark that my grandmother used to have. I don't recall what it says on it but it has a rooster on it. There are also I couple I have that were made for me by a friend- those mean a lot to me.

I'm starting to feel a need for homemade bookmarks. I have a bookark that has my grandmothers favorite prayer written on it. :) Family bookmarks are great.

I happen to have a few bookmarks, but don't really collect them. Now I'm thinking I should start!

You could get a bookmark for every occassion!
Public and school libraries are a great place to score free bookmarks. ;)

I think my fave is one with an embroidered unicorn on it. I'm not sure how many I have. They tend to get lost in the backs of drawers and things and then I need a new one. Half the time I use paper scraps or a postcard or something as a bookmark.

Oh. I had a ribbon one with a metal cat at the top that my mom gave me a long time ago. I like that one. I wonder where it is. . . .

That- that- that is SO FREAKINH AWESOME! I want a bookmark with a frickin' unicorn engraved on it!
I used to use ticket stubs and such for bookmarks becuase I can't stand dog-earring pages. Now if I don't have one I try to rememebr the page in my head. I usually fail miserably :0

Currently have about 28. Three are particular favorites: the one I got from a friend when she was on holiday in Turkey (kind of carpet-like), the one with 3-D rose petals, and the one with cream background and flower patterns on top-cloth one. :)

You have coooooooll bookmarks. Though I feel like I'd always be running my nails over the 3-D one. *shudder*

I collect bookmarks and have for years. I don't know how many I have but they take up about a shoe box worth of space.

I always try to get a bookmark when I travel somewhere. Sometimes I buy some at the bookstore just because they are cute or pretty. Sometimes I get them as gifts.

I don't really have a favorite. If I did, I would probably pick one of the one's I bought on vacation somewhere or was a gift from someone, strictly for the sentimental reasons. Or one I've had ever since I was a kid (I think one of the oldest bookmarks I have I got more than 20 years ago and says "The Butler Did It").

As many bookmarks as I've collected though - I don't use them. I don't really know why... I just keep them all nice in a drawer. Instead I have a few different other bookmarks that are for actual use (generally cheap un-cute one's I've gotten free somewhere).

Maybe I will start to use my collection instead of keeping them tucked away like fancy guest towels or fine china...

I do! I don't have that many though. My fave right now is one that is white with big black letters that say, "Shhh...I'm reading". And it has a black tassel with a smile face button on it. lol

I've seen that one! :D
I should give it to my sister. She can't read if anyone is talking around her at all. She has to shut herself in her room in absolute quiet

I can read anywhere. :) But I can understand how some people need complete quiet.

And I did a misquote. It's actually, "Shh..I'm trying to read". lol

I have quite a few books marks that I like, but my favourite actually isn't technically a book mark: it's a post card with a picture of John Lennon & Yoko in a park. It looks very candid & I love it a lot.

Hey if it holds your place, it's a bookmark. :) I went through a period where I used just about anything and everything as a bookmark.

What a good idea!
I collect postcards, but I guess bookmarks come as cheap if you look carefully. I often take postcards "one to use, one to keep".

This totally reminded me that when I was young, I'd go to the bookstore to get a book and usually a bookmark. I guess somewhere along the way I stopped, but I don't know where the bookmarks ended up at. Maybe they're still in the boxes at my parents' house. Or maybe they got thrown away. How sad!

I do still have one from my childhood - it was a gift, and it is sort of lacy with an M embroidered on the top. I find it in one of my books every now and then. :)

i used to have a faux leather bookmark that i loved so much. it couldn't tear at all & i hate those cheap paper bookmarks. i am a materials girl though. usually i'll just fold a post it or use a paper clip.
