Female Superheroes & Heroines.

Hiya, I wondered if any of you lovely bookworms could help me out with some recommendations.

I'm looking for any fantasy based books that involve a women/girl playing some kind of superhero or a strong, heroic role - one that would normally be associated with a male character. I don't mind what age range they're from (adult, teen...) whether older or modern, I just like to get an idea of what's out there for a little research I'm doing.
