Big Chain Stores

Does anyone else get overwhelmed by big chain bookstores? I'm fine if I'm going in for a particular book or subject but I find browsing stresses me out a bit. There are too many choices; too many colours; too many covers clamoring for attention. Reading is such an intimate act and it feels strange to pick out books in a store that has more in common with the GAP than with a library.

I spent forty minutes wandering like a lost lamb, picking up the occasional book and putting it back down, before giving up in defeat.
