I've already been doing a little bit of reorganizing. Cast a gander at the links pages. You will note that I have removed some links to no longer active sites, and am thinking of removing the links to dead comms (i.e. communities where it looks like nothing has been posted for a year or more). If anyone has suggestions for more active communities (as well as additional book-related sites to add) please post here.
The community profile also has not been changed in forever, and maybe could stand to be updated a little.
I have begun making better use of the Notable Posts (i.e. Memories) feature.
I also want to do more updating of our tags.
Renamed genre: sci-fi to genre: science fiction
Renamed story review to book review (because not all book reviews are of fiction)
Renamed book series: twilight and book series: harry potter to series: twilight and series: harry potter (so there is less tag congregation around "book"). I am not sure if there are any other series notable enough (and with enough posts) to merit their own tags, but I am open to suggestions. I figure I'll leave those two there for historical reasons.
Consolidated "-rules" and "-introduction post" into moderator announcements and/or a Notable Post.
Moved young adult, manga, and graphic novels from "genre" to "category." Also added category: children's books.
Proposed new tags:
Some of these will dramatically expand the tag list, so if anyone has objections, let's hear them. Or if you think another label would be better.
- Change authors to author:a through author:z. (This will mean losing all previously tagged authors, which I don't think will really matter much.)
- Category: self-published
- Monthly Review Summary
There are an infinite number of genres and sub-genres. Here are some of the ones that have been discussed and/or that I think would be useful. But feel free to add others (or argue why one of these should not be added or should be renamed).
- Steampunk (too specific?)
- Alternate history
Obviously we can add more tags whenever we want.
Should there be tags for books in languages other than English? It seems like it might be useful, but I don't fancy the raging debate that might erupt over whether we should use "European literature" and "Asian literature" or three hundred unique tags for every language and culture out there... OTOH, "Scandinavian Crime Thrillers" seems to be at least as big a trend as "Steampunk" nowadays...
So this wasn't much of a SBD, but I am going to try to start resuming book discussions.
